We will not need 15 days to prove majority, Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa tells BJP workers  1 Week ago

BENGALURU: Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday said he and his party will not require 15 days to win confidence vote, reiterating the confidence of the central leadership on winning the trust vote on the floor of the assembly.

"I do not think we need 15 days to prove majority, despite the governor giving us time. I am confident that those Congress MLAs lodged in a private resort outside Bengaluru, who have undergone mental torture and harassment, will vote with the government. We are in power and we will prove our majority,” said Yeddyurappa addressing party leaders and workers.

Karnataka assembly: MLAs with criminal records

Attending a felicitation event after taking oath as the chief minister of Karnataka, Yeddyurappa said the Congress MLAs in the resort have been kept under "inhumane" circumstances.

“The Congress has seized the mobile phones of their MLAs and are not even allowing them to speak to their spouses,” he alleged.

Yeddyurappa said the BJP has the popular mandate and that voters have supported the party and expressed its confidence in it.

“We will have to call for the first session of the new assembly any time and I expect all the 104 MLAs to make their presence felt, without exceptions,” he told the newly elected MLAs.

Karnataka polls: When the winner fell short

The CM said that even Badami, where former chief minister Siddaramaiah won the seat by a slim margin of 1,600 votes would have been bagged by the BJP had Sreeramulu campaigned for two more days.

Karnataka: Short of a saffron sweep

“Had Sreeramulu dedicated two more days then Siddaramaiah would have even lost Badami. However, due to pressure to campaign in other constituencies Sreeramulu was forced to restrict his campaigning in Badami to bare minimum,” he said.

Yeddyurappa said the Congress tried all possible measures to divide the Lingayats and Veerashaivas for electoral gains but failed to do so.

“With the state rejecting the Congress, we should grab all the 28 parliamentary constituencies at the 2019 elections,” he said.
